Next to losing ‘wood’, nothing is quite as terrifying to a man as losing his hair. A thick thatch has long, if erroneously, been associated with both masculinity and virility. A full head of hair is related to neither, of course, but that doesn’t stop men fretting about their follicles. So much so that a recent survey found that over 70 per cent of men worry about hair loss.
At the end of the day, most of us would rather keep the hair we have – if only because it’s fun to have a hairstyle and reassuring to have something to keep your bonce warm in the winter.
- Why Does Hair Loss Happen?

Hair loss and the rate at which it takes hold is – although partly influenced by factors such as diet and lifestyle – primarily determined by the genetic cards dealt in the first place.
“The major hair loss problem suffered by men – over 50 per cent by the age of 50 – is androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern hair loss. This occurs when genetically predisposed hair follicles become gradually sensitive to [the testosterone by-product dihydrotestosterone, or DHT],” says Glenn Lyons, a trichologist at Philip Kingsley.
“The affected follicles produce increasingly finer and shorter hairs until growth ceases altogether. [Age is the main determiner of] the rate at which men bald; experiencing hair loss in late teens or twenties means the gene is more dominant.”
That doesn’t mean you should take hair loss lying down. Whether you’re 21 or 51, there are several ways to stem the tide – even if DNA is conspiring to see your healthy crop taken before its time.
- Some Ways To Beat The Bald Spot:
1. Medicine If you decide to start treatment to protect your hair, drugs are often recommended as the first line of defense to slow hair loss and stimulate hair growth. What’s most acclaimed by doctors is Minoxidil, often sold as Rogaine. In addition, drugs such as Lipogaine and Finasteride have also been shown to be clinically effective.
2.Improving living habits
Stress, unhealthy habits have gradually become the main causes of male hair loss due to increasingly fierce social competition. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the lifestyle. In addition to ensuring adequate sleep, men should control the amount of smoking and develop good eating habits.
3.Scalp massage Perhaps the cheapest method of thickening hair is a scalp massage. It costs nothing and has no side effects. When washing your hair, gently massage the pressure around the scalp with your fingertips to promote blood flow, which helps hair grow. For further benefits, you can use essential oils when massaging your scalp, or you can try a hand-held scalp massager, which also removes dead skin cells.
4.Anti-thinning or Thickening shampoo Effective volumizing shampoo has two functions. First, these types of products usually contain proteins that attach to hair from makeup to make it look fuller and fuller. This is very helpful for people with thin or naturally delicate hair. Second, shampoos used for thinning or thinning hair also contain vitamins and amino acids, which are expected to make the scalp healthier and produce more hair over time.
5.Laser Light Dermatologists and other dermatologists usually use laser therapy. The laser treatment is designed to increase blood flow to the scalp and follicles. It also improves cell metabolism, helping hair regrowth and thickening.
6.Hair Transplant A hair transplant is a procedure in which the rest of the body is fitted with hair follicles on top of the head. After implantation, they continue to perform the same operations as in the original location. The two most popular methods are as follows:
Follicular unit transplantation – Skin is removed from the back of your scalp (where there tends to be more hair) and the follicles are removed from the skin, then surgically instaled in the balding areas.
Follicular unit extraction – Eschewing skin removal, this procedure takes hair from one part of the scalp and transplants it in the balding areas.
